Climate Change

About the Program

“Green” Collar Jobs, “Green” Investing, “Green” Buildings, “Green” Stimulus... The “Green” label seems to be everywhere these days! But what does “green” mean?

To an investor, “green” is a strategy for identifying companies poised to profit from the changing climate. For corporate managers, “green” is a means of adjusting business practices to reduce waste and increase efficiency. Everyone is focused on the bottom line and for successful “green” initiatives there must be significant return on investment. In response, the Rady School of Management has partnered with Scripps Institution of Oceanography to present “The ROI for Going Green”.

In response, the Rady School of Management partners with Scripps Institution of Oceanography to present a program teaching business leaders to compute the ROI for going green.

Read about the June 2008 “Climate Change and Business” course in Scripps' Explorations E-Magazine and Stu Ostro's Forecast Earth blog.

Benefits

  • Understand climate change — what we know, why we know it, and what it means. Learn to discuss climate change in social and professional conversations.
  • Learn to "walk the walk" by observing companies who are proactively addressing climate change while focused on their bottom line.
  • Discover possible risks, new technologies, emerging products and corporate practices aimed at increasing the bottom line while helping the environment
  • Study the two sectors where science and business are breaking new ground — biofuels and water.
  • Formulate action plans, including a "green" corporate sustainability plan (with cost/benefit analysis) and a "green" investment strategy (with theories on portfolio construction).

Who Should Attend

  • Executives who are looking to implement or initiate corporate action plans making them stand out as proactively addressing the climate change issue.
  • Investors, investment advisors and entrepreneurs seeking to find an "edge" in emerging climate markets as well as traditional markets that are impacted by climate change.

How We Are Different

Our program is unique from other “green” conferences because we focus on education through classroom lecture, participant interaction, and hands-on activity.

We are proud to draw upon one of the world’s leading climate research institutions (Scripps) along side a rapidly growing business school (Rady) with strong ties to a community on the cutting edge of the cleantech sector (San Diego).
