Current Students
A very warm welcome to members of our inaugural doctoral class! Our doctoral program is a vital part of our educational and research mission here at the Rady School. Your success is strategically important to us as a school and of tremendous interest to our faculty, business partners and our colleagues in other units on campus. You will find that there are numerous resources within UC San Diego to help you learn and grow during your doctoral program.
We have been preparing for your arrival and I wanted to provide a brief update on a couple of important items:
- Faculty mentors: To help guide you through the program, we have identified a group of faculty to serve as mentors. Faculty mentors will help you select courses, get acquainted with research and answer questions about the program. The Rady School is fortunate to have exceptionally high-caliber faculty. You are encouraged to work closely with your faculty mentor throughout the program.
- Research: UC San Diego is a research-focused institution and we would like to expose our students to research early on in the program. As you know, a doctoral program is much more than taking courses. It specifically involves learning to conduct research, read papers critically and publish articles in top journals. We will be offering summer research assistantships for students who have made research progress in their first year. You are encouraged to start thinking about research questions as soon as possible. Interacting with your faculty mentors would also be helpful in this regard.
I look forward to meeting you at the orientation this fall. In the meantime, I encourage you to visit our Web site and to reach out to your faculty mentors.
Warm regards,
